A significant flash flood swept through parts of Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona, forcing evacuations of dozens of people, shutting down several popular visitor areas and leaving roughly 15 people missing or unaccounted for, authorities said. The National Park Service is asking the public to help account for people who may have been in the flood zone. Park officials urged anyone who knows of hikers or backpackers who were in the inner canyon along the Bright Angel Creek corridor on Aug. 29, as well as anyone with a campground reservation in the affected area, to contact the agency's Investigative Services Branch. "This includes individuals who may have been traveling along the North Kaibab Trail from the North Kaibab Trailhead to Phantom Ranch, staying at Bright Angel Campground, or traveling or staying in the area known as 'the Box' north of Phantom Ranch," according to a park news release . The agency shared the tip line 888-653-0009.
