CHICAGO (WLS) -- Three men were shot during an altercation outside of a downtown nightclub early Saturday morning, Chicago police said. Police said the shooting happened near North Clark and West Erie streets in the city's River North neighborhood around 3:40 a.m. An off-duty Cook County Sheriff's correctional officer was among the people injured, officials said. A suspect or multiple suspects took out a gun and opened fire, striking the men, police said. A 24-year-old, shot in the cheek and leg, was in critical condition.

Police said the shooter or shooters fled the scene. "We can confirm that an off duty Cook County Sheriff's Correctional Officer was injured in the shooting," a Cook County Sheriff's Office spokesperson said.
