A Santa Fe woman was killed Saturday afternoon in what was reported to be an “accidental” shooting by her adult brother, the Santa Fe Police Department said in a social media post. Alexia Verdugo Sigala, 24, was shot at around 1:45 p.m. near Rufina Street and Atocha Road. Verdugo Sigala was transported to a local hospital and then airlifted to University of New Mexico Hospital, where she died from her injuries, according to police.

Police said that her brother had allegedly unintentionally discharged a rifle and Verdugo Sigala was struck in the torso. Detectives interviewed the brother and took the firearm in custody as evidence.
