Sarasota jury convicts man in shooting over $20 argument

SARASOTA, Fla. ( WWSB ) - A Sarasota County jury convicted Everett Arnold White of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm while armed with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, the 12th Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office said. The convictions stem from a Jan. 18, 2025, shooting investigated by the Sarasota Police Department. White’s trial was held Aug. 19-21 at the Sarasota County Courthouse.

The victim suffered significant injuries and required months of hospitalization, according to the State Attorney’s Office. The State Attorney’s Office said White previously served more than 13 years in prison after being convicted of two counts of attempted second-degree murder in 1997. “This is the second time White has nearly killed someone with a firearm and the State of Florida will do everything in our power to make sure he doesn’t have a third opportunity,” Assistant State Attorney William Greiner said in the release.
