Saratoga Springs father killed by lightning strike while jet skiing in Florida

A Saratoga Springs father of four was killed after being struck by lightning while riding a personal watercraft off Florida’s Gulf Coast Saturday evening. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called around 6:35 p.m. to Fort De Soto Park in Tierra Verde, Florida, where a man had been struck by lightning while on the water. Authorities identified him as 41-year-old Steve Matheson of Saratoga Springs. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A GoFundMe created for Matheson’s family describes him as a devoted husband to his wife, Abbie, and a loving father to their four children.
