He said some of the major city and regional accomplishments during his 20 years included the development of Chaffee Crossing, creation of the Arkansas Colleges of Health Education, ongoing work to complete Interstate 49 through the Fort Smith metro, taxpayer support of improved police and fire services, expansion of the city’s parks system, taxpayer support of funding to meet federal consent decree requirements, the city’s landfill operation “One of Fort Smith’s most significant achievements over the past 20 years has been securing the Foreign Military Sales mission for the F-35,” Settle wrote. “This effort reflected the strength of a community working together toward a shared goal, and I am grateful to have played a small part in it. Settle’s decision to not seek re-election to the board’s at-large position 6 seat creates the second open board position in the November election cycle.
