Severe turbulence on Air India flight leaves 17 injured as plane has 'sudden loss of altitude'

WASHINGTON — An Air India flight on Tuesday hit severe turbulence, leaving 17 people injured. The airline said the flight was traveling from Phuket, Thailand to New Dehli, India when it experienced a "sudden loss of altitude" during cruise. According to a press release from the airline, the Airbus A320neo aircraft had 137 passengers and eight crew members onboard. "Earlier today, Air India flight AI2379 operating from Phuket to Delhi experienced a sudden loss of altitude during cruise. After the momentary event, the aircraft continued normally and landed safely in Delhi at 11:07 hrs IST," the airline said. The aircraft landed safely but 13 passengers and four crew members were injured and taken to the hospital for medical evaluation.
