Shooting and chase ends with 1 in hospital, several in custody, Hallandale Beach Police say

A shooting and chase ended with one person hospitalized and several people in custody Thursday night, Hallandale Beach Police said. The incident began when officers responded to the 500 block of Northwest 5th Street after receiving a ShotSpotter alert for possible gunfire. As officers were responding, they spotted a vehicle believed to be connected that was speeding away with its headlights off, and when officers tried to stop the vehicle, the driver fled, resulting in a pursuit, police said. The pursuit continued outside Hallandale Beach and two people fled on foot, with one taken into custody following a foot pursuit and the other found in Fort Lauderdale with the help of a police K-9, officials said.
