Shooting of 16-year-old is small town’s first murder in a decade, NC police say

A North Carolina town of about 880 people is dealing with its first homicide in more than a decade, and the victim is just 16, according to the Magnolia Police Department. The suspect, Gerardo Emanuel Olvera, is also accused of trying to kill the teen’s father and another man, police say. It happened around 6:30 p.m. Sunday on East Sandy Street, and police say the suspect left to get a gun, then returned and started shooting people. “Two of the three victims were 50 year-old (men) suffering gunshot wounds to the head and back areas. The third victim was deceased at the scene.
