Sideline action sparks football frenzy across St. Tammany

The opening day of every high school football season is one of the most anticipated events of the year in much of America, and south Louisiana is a hotspot for all that energy. Sure, the hardest-hitting action happens between the lines, but what fills the spaces between plays — the bands bursting brass high and percussive lows into the night air, the cheerleaders shouting rally cries, spirited student sections stomping packed stadium bleachers with unrivaled energy — it's a scene that's replayed at St. Tammany Parish schools for 10 glorious weeks from the beginning of September and until the beginning of November (more if the team is having a banner year and making a deep run into the playoffs.) Here's to a competitive, healthy and fun-filled year on (and around) the gridiron for each of our local teams, their families, fans, and everyone else who relishes the special moments under the Friday night lights.
