The incident happened on Friday, Sept. 4, near the intersection of Page Drive and White Horse Road. According to a SLED news release , a Greenville County deputy saw Walter Jason Smith, 42, walking in the area armed with a gun. There was an exchange of gunfire after Smith allegedly pointed the gun at the officer who was in a patrol car.
