Smithfield Police investigating crash that seriously injured pedestrian

SMITHFIELD, N.C. (WTVD) -- A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in Smithfield on Saturday morning. The Smithfield Police Department, Smithfield Fire Department and Johnston County EMS were dispatched to the intersection of East Market Street and Second Street just before 11:30 a.m. after a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Officers said a 76-year-old woman was struck by a pickup truck driven by a 20-year-old while she was walking through the crosswalk from South Second Street to North Second Street. The woman was taken to Wake Medical Center with serious injuries. The crash remains under investigation by the Smithfield Police Department, and charges are pending.
