The officers were pursuing a person of interest in a domestic dispute case at the time of the shooting. The suspect, a 33-year-old man with a lengthy criminal history, also died, according to police. Columbia police Officer Christopher DeLong Jr., 29, was shot and killed while he was investigating a suspicious person who matched the description of a suspect in an earlier incident, the department confirmed Saturday afternoon during a media briefing.
