South Plainfield girls soccer continues remarkable turnaround with shutout victory

South Plainfield remained undefeated with a 4-0 shutout victory over Perth Amboy on Wednesday at South Plainfield High School. Jayleen Ramirez-Hernandes led the offensive effort for South Plainfield (8-0) with three points on one goal and one assist. Sofia Aguilar opened the scoring in the first period to give South Plainfield a 1-0 lead. South Plainfield pulled away in the second period with three goals. Ramirez-Hernandes scored with an assist from Emily Canavan, followed by Camila Acosta’s goal assisted by Ramirez-Hernandes. Zoe Cabrera capped the scoring with an unassisted goal. Acosta and Cabrera each finished with two points on one goal apiece, while Canavan added one point on an assist. South Plainfield dominated possession, recording 17 shots on goal compared to none for Perth Amboy (3-6). The victory moves South Plainfield one win away from matching last season’s total of nine wins, a remarkable turnaround for a program that went winless two years ago.
