SILVER SPRING, Md. — A Silver Spring woman was sentenced to just one year behind bars for a crash that claimed the life of an 85-year-old woman back in 2025. Judge Eric Johnson sentenced Jesica Argueta, 24, to the maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, but suspended all by one year to serve, plus five years of supervised probation, on Wednesday. Argueta pleaded guilty in July to one count of vehicular manslaughter by gross negligence and one count of second-degree assault for causing the collision that killed 85-year-old Josephine Gieske and seriously injured the driver in the car Gieske was in. The charges stem from an Aug. 7, 2025, crash at the intersection of Randolph Road and Sherwood Forest Drive in Silver Spring.
