Springfield protesters want Flock out; City Council is working on it
MassLive.com reports: SPRINGFIELD — Kenneth Averett woke up to gunfire right outside his house in Ward 5 early Monday morning, but that doesn’t mean he wants the Flock camera that’s on his street to stay there. He joined with about two dozen others to stage a protest on the steps of City Hall and ask the City Council on Monday night to cancel the city’s police contract with Flock Safety, a brand of license plate readers. “Everybody wants safety, and no one is saying police shouldn’t have tools to be able to keep residents safe, but does that justify a mass surveillance state?. I don’t know that it does,” Averett said.
