Staff, students safe after bomb threat triggers evacuation at Buckeye school

BUCKEYE, AZ (AZFamily) — Students and staff are safe after a reported bomb threat sparked an evacuation at a Buckeye school Tuesday morning. Buckeye police say around 9 a.m., a person called Great Hearts Roosevelt, located near Jackrabbit Trail and Van Buren Street , and made comments about a bomb at the school. The school was immediately evacuated following the call. “I just got a call at work saying that there was a bomb threat at our school and very, very worried about my kids,” said Anthony Lisi, a parent. Yellow school buses lined the campus as officers evacuated students and began a full sweep. Because of the extreme heat, students were bused less than two miles away to Blue Horizon Elementary, near Verrado Way and Yuma Road . “As a parent, it’s so, it really can happen to me, which I think is kind of the most surreal part and just eye-opening to never take any day for granted,” Lisi said. “It’s scary.
