Stampede at the Stable outdoor wrestling tourney turns into a family affair at Sheyenne

WEST FARGO — When Kendra Azure learned about an outdoor wrestling tournament in West Fargo, she knew she and her sisters had to make the four-hour trip from Belcourt. After all, wrestling runs in the family. “What brought me here is just knowing that I have two sisters out here making Belcourt proud,” said Azure. “Especially since they’re in higher grades than me, I feel like I should be out there doing the same thing and being just like them.” Neziah Champagne had the same idea. Wrestling out of Belcourt, he traveled to West Fargo on Friday along with his cousin, Eli Goulet of Woodbury, Minnesota. “Just to see my cousin wrestle and for me to see him wrestle,” Champagne said. “I think it just feels good to be outside and have the breeze on you while you’re wrestling.” That was part of the appeal of the third annual Stampede at the Stable outdoor wrestling tournament, which drew 378 wrestlers from across the region to the turf at West Fargo Sheyenne High School on Friday.
