Suspect in alleged gunpoint carjackings dies in officer-involved shooting

PORTLAND, Maine (WGME) -- An investigation is underway into the death of a man who was accused of stealing vehicles at gunpoint in Portland and was later shot and killed in an officer-involved shooting. Police shot the suspect right outside the Casco Bay Ferry Terminal. Both Portland police and the attorney general's office are investigating. Police say the suspect who died is 37 year-old Jacob Hastings, a man with a criminal past who we learned today may have been living on the streets of Portland. Jacob Hastings is suspected of committing a series of crimes in Portland starting around 9:30 Thursday night with a report of shots fired near the Cross Insurance Arena.
