Swampy terrain complicated recovery after fatal Ludlow plane crash

As of Sunday night, emergency crews were still at the scene of a fatal Sept. 5 plane crash in Ludlow , where swampy conditions and 4 feet of water forced responders to lay down planking to access the scene and extricate the deceased. Two people were killed when a small plane crashed in a wooded area off Center Street Saturday night. The crash is now being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration, National Transportation Safety Board and State Police assigned to the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office. In a Sunday update, Ludlow Fire Chief Ryan Pease and Police Chief Mike Brennan said personnel were remaining on scene overnight until the aircraft could be removed.
