INDIANAPOLIS — A teenager is recovering and near east side neighbors have been left shaken after a weekend shooting that police say stemmed from a party at a home near Harrison and Shelby Streets early Sunday morning. “It woke us up,” a neighbor, who wanted to remain anonymous, said. “My wife wasn't sure if it was something on the highway, because we live close to the highway, or if it was actually gunshots, and I said, ‘No, those were gunshots.’” The shooting just after 4:30 a.m. injured a 17-year-old male and left the area littered with about 70 shell casings, according to IMPD. Officer Drew Brown said the property owner saw things getting out of hand, went over to the house to try and mediate the situation, but gunfire still rang out later that morning. ”We’re happy to see that the homeowner took the proper steps to try and intervene to try to deescalate the situation,” Brown said.
