Texas County sheriff praises firefighters who saved homes after deadly Guymon plane crash

The Texas County Sheriff’s Department is praising firefighters who protected homes after a deadly plane crash sparked a 20-acre grass fire near a Guymon neighborhood. “Today’s challenge was a whole 'nother level, and they really got it done,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement. One person died after a small plane crashed southeast of the Guymon airport around 4:10 p.m. The crash happened in an open field behind homes on Seneca Drive and sparked a large grass fire that directly threatened the neighborhood. Firefighters from Guymon, Goodwell, Optima and Hooker responded to contain the fire and protect nearby homes. “We do need to shout out the firefighters who flooded the area and were able to save the houses in the neighborhood,” the sheriff’s department said. The department also offered condolences to the victim’s family and friends. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of the victim of today’s aircraft accident,” the statement said.
