A Texas high school has canceled the remainder of its varsity football season — and all of next year's varsity schedule — just four games into its first season of UIL competition. Keene High School, east of Cleburne in the southern Dallas-Fort Worth area, notified its District 6-3A Division I opponents that it would forfeit the rest of its 2026 schedule and its entire 2027 varsity schedule, according to Texas Football. Athletic director and head football coach Ethan Stepp cited a high number of injuries and a lack of available players in an email explaining the decision, Texas Football reported. Keene also canceled the remainder of its district sub-varsity schedule.
