Owens is a senior captain and outside linebacker for the football team. He is also the band’s head drum major, leading the musicians from the podium during halftime. “He said it would be a dream to conduct the band in football pads,” said band director Michael Larkin. That dream has become a reality for Owens last week, who nearly quit band and initially came to football too skinny to play the way he wanted, according to his coaches and band director. “I serve as an example to the younger kids that you can do both,” said Owens.
