This underrated Eagles trade pickup is one of the NFL’s biggest steals

When the Philadelphia Eagles traded for Dontayvion Wicks back in April, the football world’s reaction to the move didn’t have anything to do with Wicks at all. It was all about A.J. Brown’s impending exit. Yes, the acquisition of Wicks was a way to prepare for life after Brown. But Wicks’ potential as a contributor with the Eagles was overlooked in that moment. It isn’t now. Through two weeks, Wicks is proving to be one of the biggest steals of the NFL offseason. The Eagles traded a 2026 fifth-round pick and 2027 sixth-round pick to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for Wicks. It seemed like a fair deal. Wicks, a 2023 fifth-rounder, was largely a role player for three seasons in Green Bay. General manager Howie Roseman also handed Wicks a contract extension worth $12.5 million for the 2027 season — an extension that some questioned at the time. But during the Eagles’ 2-0 start, Wicks has vastly outplayed the Eagles’ minimal investment in him. Wicks has caught seven of 10 targets for 147 yards. He had a 64-yard catch and an impressive touchdown vs. Washington in Week 1. In Week 2, all five of his receptions vs. Tennessee went for first downs in high-leverage situations. Wicks is a devastating route-runner. He makes contested catches. He hasn’t dropped a pass thus far. He’s been great. Wicks has earned the trust of Jalen Hurts.
