Three South Bay residents killed in Alaska plane crash

The three Bay Area residents killed in the crash were Ronald Schmidt, 65, of San Jose; Lance Schmidt, 20, of San Jose; and Daniel Simons, 82, of Los Gatos, authorities said. The fourth person killed was the pilot, a 68-year-old resident of Anchorage, Alaska, identified as Eric Middlebrook. Alaska state troopers were notified of the plane crash around 1:18 p.m., authorities said.
