Tornado hit western NC during severe storms, National Weather Service confirms

The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado was present amid severe weather in western North Carolina on Tuesday, July 28. On Thursday, July 30, the NWS issued a preliminary statement indicating an EF0 tornado in Madison County with estimated peak winds of 80 mph. According to the Enhanced Fujita Scale, or EF Scale, EF0 is the lowest category. The EF Scale is used to assign a rating for a tornado based on estimated wind speeds and related damage, per the NWS . The NWS recorded that the Tornado touched down in the Allegheny area of Madison County with a path length of 1.1 miles and a width of 75 yards.
