Tornado warning for parts of Columbia, Cowlitz counties expires

HELENS, Ore. — The National Weather Service's Portland office issued a tornado warning for east-central Columbia County after spotting a severe thunderstorm in the area Thursday afternoon, later shifting the warning as the storm moved north through the Kalama area before ultimately downgrading it. A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was first detected at 12:19 p.m. near Columbia City just north of St. Helens, NWS said, and was moving north at 20 mph.
