HONOLULU (Island News) -- Lowell is a major Category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 145 mph. It’s about 635 miles south-southwest of Lihue and 640 miles south-southwest of Honolulu, moving west-northwest at 7 mph. The storm is expected to turn northwest by this evening, followed by a northward to north-northeastward turn with an increase in forward speed Sunday and Monday. On the current forecast track, the center of Lowell is expected to move across portions of the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument, just west of the main Hawaiian Islands, on Monday night.
