Truck driver charged with DUI after 13-year-old injured in Whitfield County school bus crash

A crash involving a school bus in Whitfield County left one child injured Friday morning, according to authorities. The driver suspected of causing the crash now faces charges including driving under the influence and reckless driving, according to spokesperson Courtney Land with the Georgia State Patrol. The driver, in a Ford F-150 truck, was going south on Riverbend Road and attempting to pass traffic in a no-passing zone, swiping two cars going the same direction, Land said in an email. That caused a third oncoming vehicle to swerve and lose control, she said. The F-150 driver left the scene and hit the school bus while drifting out of the correct lane during a curve, then rear-ended a fifth vehicle, according to the State Patrol.
