Trump calls off attack on Iran subject to peace deal being "rapidly" reached

In a phone call with President Trump on Saturday, Saudi Arabia's de facto leader warned against drawing the region into a "wider conflict," according to a read-out released by the Saudi Foreign Ministry. The Gulf kingdom said Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman "stressed the need to prioritize dialogue to reduce escalation and the importance of making every possible effort to achieve calm that paves the way for diplomatic solutions, preserves the region's security and stability, and prevents a wider conflict." CBS News reported Saturday that bin Salman had reached out to Mr. Trump in an attempt to dissuade him from launching a fresh round of strikes on Iran. A day earlier, multiple sources said the president was considering an intense bombing campaign against Iranian energy targets. Trump said he was canceling a planned attack on Iran, citing progress toward a deal with Iran.
