Trump calls off strikes on Iran after saying rough framework of deal reached

In a phone call with President Trump on Saturday, Saudi Arabia's de facto leader warned against drawing the region into a "wider conflict," according to a read-out released by the kingdom's state-run Saudi Press Agency. The news agency said Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman "emphasized the necessity of prioritizing dialogue to de-escalate tensions and the importance of exerting all possible efforts to achieve a truce that paves the way for diplomatic solutions that yield positive results for preserving the security and stability of the region and prevent it from being drawn into a wider conflict." CBS News reported Saturday that bin Salman had reached out to Mr. Trump in an attempt to dissuade him from launching a fresh round of strikes on Iran. A day earlier, multiple sources said the president was considering an intense bombing campaign against Iranian energy targets. Trump said he was canceling a planned attack on Iran, citing progress toward a deal with Iran.
