TSA discovers 5 Civil War-era cannonballs in luggage at Gulf Shores Airport

GULF SHORES, Ala. (WKRG) — During a recent security check at Alabama's Gulf Shores International Airport, an unusual discovery was made. Five Civil War-era cannonballs were discovered by Transportation Security Administration agents at a security checkpoint on July 18. "That would have to be the weirdest thing in our short existence that we've ever had come through TSA," said Airport Director Jesse Fosnaugh. "Those were actually in someone's luggage," Fosnaugh said. "There were two that were grapefruit size and three that were a little over an inch in size." Investigators believe they were stolen from the Fort Morgan Historical site, where Civil War relics are so treasured that using metal detectors on the property is not allowed.
