UPDATE: Witnesses describe ‘horrible’ plane crash scene that killed pilot near Fort Payne, AL

UPDATE : Neighbors of a 62-year-old pilot say they are heartbroken after he died in a plane crash on Tuesday. Local 3 News spoke with residents near the plane crash that took the life of 62-year-old Douglas Emge of DeKalb County, Alabama. One woman said she was awoken by the crash. “I just saw the aftermath of the crash and the flames and the smoke, and I knew something was going on,” said Tomlinson. “I stepped outside on the deck, and it was horrible, obscene.” Tomlinson said her late husband and Emge were friends, and she knew his family well. “I'm in shock. Known Doug for a long time,” Tomlinson said. Another woman says her stepdaughter told her about the crash early Tuesday morning. “It come between our house and the house down here, and then next thing you know, it was blowed up over yonder,” said Linda Hall.
