Valkyries blow big early lead, chance to catch Lynx for best record in WNBA

PORTLAND – There was a chance for the Valkyries to cap off their breakthrough second season with the best record in the WNBA . After a disappointing showing on Tuesday night, that won’t be happening. In the final game of its inaugural season, the Portland Fire stormed back from Golden State’s 17-0 start to the game to hand the Valkyries a 90-82 overtime loss at Moda Center. It was Golden State’s first loss since August 21 and snapped a six-game winning streak. “I thought we had the mindset going in, the right intent, and then we kind of just let it slip away,” Valkyries coach Natalie Nakase said. “They played harder than us.
