Michael Cooper, a senior at VSU, said he was outside near a residence hall when he heard multiple gunshots ring out. "We just heard a lot of shots. after shots. after shots," Cooper said. Cooper said the volume of gunfire immediately signaled the seriousness of the situation. "You know I've heard gunshots before, but not as many," he said. "You just knew someone got hit by the amount of shots we heard." In the aftermath, Cooper witnessed frightened students scrambling for safety. "Just seeing the people that were traumatized, the people running, screaming, crying after that," he said. The lockdown was lifted around 8 a.m.
