'Voter enthusiasm is down': Officials discuss Nebraska voter trends ahead of general election

The deadline to register to vote in the upcoming midterms is nearing, and Nebraska data shows a downward trend in overall numbers across the state — the trend is compared with numbers from two years ago. The state data shows that 4,818 fewer Nebraskans are registered to vote in the upcoming election when compared to 2024 data. But experts point out that this year is a midterm race and two years ago it was a presidential election. "The voter enthusiasm is down," Creighton political science expert Dr. Rick Witmer said. "Not as many people are going to register to vote. It's one of those off years.
