Westbank Fishing employees killed in hazardous material incident were brothers, officials say

Two employees at Westbank Fishing who died in connection with a hazardous material incident at a production facility in Empire last week were brothers from Gretna, according to the Plaquemines Parish Coroner’s Office. Eliott Rizo-Acevedo, 31, and Yesseer Rizo-Acevedo, 26, were pronounced dead on Sept. 4 after the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to an isolated hazmat incident at Daybrook Fisheries at 136 Daybrook Ln. The cause and manner of their deaths were still pending, according to the coroner’s office. Westbank Fishing, a commercial Menhaden fishing and processing company, processes its catch at Daybrook.
