What constitutional crisis? Hoskins and Hanaway detest Supreme Court double loss | Porter

Opinion articles provide independent perspectives on key community issues, separate from our newsroom reporting. It would be easy to say that Missouri Secretary of State Denny Hoskins fought the law and lost. But trying to describe Hoskins’ attempt to circumvent the state constitution is not that simple — the Warrensburg Republican came up short in his bid to ignore state statutes and sidestep precedent set long before he stepped into the role as chief elections officer. To be honest, Hoskins’ total disregard for the rule of law and the failure to do the job the people elected him to do is a case study in everything that is wrong with politics in this state and elsewhere. As we all would like to believe: No one is above the law — not even a red sportscoat-wearing statesman that Hoskins claims he is.
