Wildfire evacuation zone grows north of Reno as fires’ perimeter nears 100,000 acres

Posted: Aug 12, 2026 / 11:41 AM PDT Updated: Aug 12, 2026 / 12:55 PM PDT LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) — The perimeter of wildfires north of Reno has now grown to about 100,000 acres, and water scoopers are defending houses and structures in the fires’ paths. Evacuation zones now stretch from the California border to areas about 30 miles to the east at the southern tip of Pyramid Lake. The Bug Fire and the Fred Mountain Fire have combined, and reports now refer to it as just the Bug Fire. It continues to expand, adding about 13,000 acres overnight to its new total of 66,505 acres, according to the Southwest Area Incident Management Team. The Stallion Fire, east of the Bug Fire, has now burned 33,426 acres.
