PORTLAND, Ore. — Smoke from wildfires burning up in the Cascade Mountains settled into parts of the Willamette Valley on Monday, causing air quality to plummet. Monday, air quality sensors showed Very Unhealthy levels in Clackamas County around Canby and Estacada; Unhealthy levels in Sandy, Tualatin and Southeast Portland; Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups around Beaverton and Northwest Portland; and Moderate around Camas and the east side of Vancouver. Most of the smoke is coming from the Austin Fire, located in the Mt. Hood National Forest southeast of Estacada, near Austin Hot Springs along the Clackamas River. As of Monday morning, the fire had burned 11,682 acres with no containment.
