Wildlife officers rescue eagles, horses; crack down on illegal hunting and fishing
Source Scout · Cleveland.com / The Plain Dealer reports: FAIRPORT HARBOR, Ohio — Salt beds that formed beneath present-day Ohio when it was part of a vast inland sea closer to the Tropics have made the state one of the leading producers of salt in the country. Repeated cycles of evaporation and sedimentation more than 400 million years ago left layers of salt behind that Morton Salt and Cargill have been extracting from beneath Lake Erie for decades. Last week, Kansas-based Morton Salt abruptly halted operations at its mine near Fairport Harbor after an intrusion of water was discovered.
