September is the time many seek out their annual flu shot and more recently also get a COVID-19 shot and other vaccinations as well. But this year, particularly under the Trump administration, those recommendations are mixed and the supply of some vaccine is up in the air. So the major medical associations got together to offer their own consensus recommendations. After 60 years of reliable, scientifically-guided recommendations every season from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “unfortunately, today the federal government is not fulfilling that responsibility in the way that it historically has, but the need for that work has not disappeared,” said Bruce Gelin of the Vaccine Integrity Project at the University of Minnesota, which evaluates scientific evidence on vaccines.
