Woman in North Carolina linked to Islamic Center of San Diego shooting

Posted: Aug 31, 2026 / 11:12 AM PDT Updated: Aug 31, 2026 / 11:12 AM PDT SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A North Carolina woman is being indicted in connection with the mass shooting that took place at a San Diego mosque in May, authorities said Monday. Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O’Neill made the announcement and will be joined by the FBI Charlotte special agent in charge, county sheriff and Winston-Salem police chief at a news conference on Monday at 12 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. According to San Diego authorities, two armed teenagers opened fire at the Islamic Center of San Diego in the Clairemont Mesa neighborhood around 11:43 a.m. on May 18.

Both suspects were later found dead in a white BMW from self‑inflicted gunshot wounds several blocks away from the mosque. “In the vehicle they used, they also identified writings, ideologies outlining religious, racial beliefs of how the world they envisioned should look,” said Mark Remily with the FBI. “These subjects did not discriminate on who they hated.” Three men were killed during the attack on May 18. The second campus is located in El Cajon.
