Woman killed in shooting near Panera Bread in Sacramento, sheriff's office said

A woman died after being shot in a Panera Bread parking lot at Howe Avenue in Sacramento on Tuesday, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said. The suspected shooter then fled the area and was spotted on Highway 50, leading to a standoff. According to the sheriff's office, the first shooting happened at 3 p.m. Amar Gandhi said preliminary information showed the man chased the victim and then shot and executed her in front of several witnesses in the Panera Bread parking lot on the corner of Howe and Northrup avenues. Fire crews pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
