Women’s professional baseball makes comeback with new four-team league

Four teams will take the field in the league’s debut season: the New York Heights, San Francisco Fire-Bells, Los Angeles Queens and Boston Hunters. League officials say the launch represents a significant milestone for women’s baseball, which has struggled to establish a lasting professional presence since the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League folded more than 70 years ago. The AAGPBL became widely known through the 1992 film A League of Their Own , which highlighted the experiences of women who played professional baseball during World War II.
