Women’s professional baseball makes comeback with new four-team league

Four teams will take the field in the league’s debut season: the New York Heights, San Francisco Fire-Bells, Los Angeles Queens and Boston Hunters. League officials say the launch represents a significant milestone for women’s baseball, which has struggled to establish a lasting professional presence since the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League folded more than 70 years ago. The AAGPBL became widely known through the 1992 film "A League of Their Own," which highlighted the experiences of women who played professional baseball during World War II.
